چکیده

We describe here an efficient algorithm for re-assembling one or more unknown objects that have been broken or torn into a large number N of irregular fragments—a problem that often arises in achaeology, art restoration, forensics, and other disciplines. The algorithm compares the curvatureencoded fragment outlines, using a modified dynamic programming sequencematching algorithm, at progressively increasing scales of resolution. The total cost gets reduced from (NL) (whereL is the mean number of samples per fragment) to about O(NL); which, in principle, allows the method to be used for problems of practical size (N = 10 to 10 fragments, L = 10 to 10 samples). The performance of the algorithm is illustrated with an artificial but realistic example.

An Overview of Methods for Automatic Reassembly of Fragmented Objects

In this chapter the authors outline some research works characteristic for the application of Signal Processing and Pattern Analysis techniques to the automatic reconstruction / reassembly of fragmented archaeological objects. The studies described in the chapter cover in their application cases a variety of archaeological objects, ranging from documents and wall-paintings to pots and sculpture...

Automatic Reassembly of Document Fragments via Context Based Statistical Models

Reassembly of fragmented objects from a collection of randomly mixed fragments is a common problem in classical forensics. In this paper we address the digital forensic equivalent, i.e., reassembly of document fragments, using statistical modelling tools applied in data compression. We propose a general process model for automatically analyzing a collection fragments to reconstruct the original...

A FEM Multiscale Homogenization Procedure using Nanoindentation for High Performance Concrete

This paper aims to develop a numerical multiscale homogenization method for prediction of elasto-viscoplastic properties of a high performance concrete (HPC). The homogenization procedure is separated into two-levels according to the microstructure of the HPC: the mortar or matrix level and the concrete level. The elasto-viscoplastic behavior of individual microstructural phases of the matrix a...

Dynamics of Macro–Nano Mechanical Systems; Fixed Interfacial Multiscale Method

The continuum based approaches don’t provide the correct physics in atomic scales. On the other hand, the molecular based approaches are limited by the length and simulated process time. As an attractive alternative, this paper proposes the Fixed Interfacial Multiscale Method (FIMM) for computationally and mathematically efficient modeling of solid structures. The approach is applicable to mult...
